CHICAGO (AP) -- Presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry is in Chicago to raise campaign cash from Democratic activists.

The campaign raised more than $1 million at a dinner last night. A breakfast is scheduled for this morning.

Kerry has been working to shift the campaign's focus back to jobs in a swing through industrial Midwestern battleground states hammered by a stagnant economy.

He's having mixed success. Events in the Middle East have pulled him back into the debate over the war in Iraq and the escalating violence there.

Kerry's Chicago schedule was slated to include a tour of a job training site with Democratic senate nominee Barack Obama. He was also planning to meet privately with veteran activist Jesse Jackson to map strategies for energizing black voters.
